Great bagels and sweet pastries. Friendly home town bakery. Loved it and will be back.

This is my place of choice when in downtown GJ. Good sandwiches, cookies, pastries, and coffee, relaxed atmosphere with comfy couches, tables to sit around and work if you have to be all serious and whatnot, and the noise level is at that nice coffeehouse hum where you can be alone while surrounded by others. I live in NW Denver, home of several really good coffeehouses, and this place would fit right in. If I lived in GJ I would be a regular here. Nice work!

Don't get me wrong, this place has very good baked goods (bagels, breads, etc.) and the atmosphere is fun, but... the prices are very high.

Main Street Bagels is pretty average. Everything is rustic and hearty. Think slices of bread, thick pieces of meat, thick tomato slices and large pieces of lettuces made the sandwiches I ordered. I suspect that MSB may be one of the better options in town. For what you get its a bit pricey.

Such a good atmosphere! Good coffees and baked goods. Always crowded, but line always moves fast.

Their cinnamon rolls are amazing! Love the bagels, too.

This over-priced excuse for a breakfast cafe shows you what can happen to a city when there is no competition. I ordered a bagel sandwich, and two smoothies. It took 15 minutes to get the bagel (which did not come with sides advertised) and another 15 to get my partially melted smoothie. The bagel sandwich was terrible, the eggs tasted like water and green onion, and there was no seasonings to even try to make it tolerable. The prices were disgusting for such shoddy quality. I would not eat there again, but I may come back for a good smoothie.

Yeaaahhh, the bagels are not cheap, but I for one am willing to pay a buck or two for a bagel as good as this! I got the Spinach & Swiss Bialy, and ohhhboy, I went back the next mornin' for another:). Divine! A pocket of spinach covered in swiss...purrrr. I ate it in the store on a fun retro couch:). The employees were great, the atmosphere is fantastic (cozy with bits of "cool"), the Polar Express Hot Chocolate (made with steamed half-n-half, dark chocolate syrup, melted semi-sweet chunks & whip cream) *alone* is a reason to stop in, let alone the from-scratch bagels. This is a great place to get something delicious to-go, to sit & enjoy some moments with a friend or with family, or to snuggle up in a squooshy lazy-boy with a book. There are spaces for all 3:). Also: on certain days, you can Rock/Paper/Scissors the cashiers for discounts or free stuff! :) Awesome!

Mainstreet GJ is like a ghost town on Sundays: everything is closed. But Mainstreet Bagels is open! On Saturday morning they have local musicians playing bluegrass and folk music, and the musicians really ham it up. Kids love it. They have tasty muffins in addition to bagels, and are eager to cater their sandwiches to your wants & needs. Even though their menu doesn't offer a vegan sandwich, they have no problem making one up special with hummus. A great place to have a business meeting.

Fresh baked bagels, artisan breads, and sweets. This place has been doing things homemade since before it was trendy. Their espresso, coffee, and Chai are all great. Oh and the Chai is brewed in House, it does not come pre-made from a box... Uh-hem, Starbucks. Great location. This place is perfect for Grand Junction. Support local business, they are doing it right here. All I have in Arizona is Einsteins, I would love a place like this a little closer to home!

The owners of MSB's are genuinely great people. MSB strives to keep an incredibly healthy and fresh product. Delicious recipes, awesome bread, amazing bagel and pastry selection, and great coffee to boot. Highly recommend stopping in for a sandwich or bagel!! PS. Don't forget the fresh juice selection!

Good bread, ok coffee, marginal service. Also, the prices seem to have recently increased and they're a little outrageous. Meh.

Stopped over here for a late lunch on our way through Grand Junction and even at 2:30 in the afternoon, this place was packed. Not in a bad way mind you, just bustling with locals, and after eating here, we could understand why. My wife and I split the roasted red pepper and grilled eggplant sandwiches, both were excellent. The bread was fresh and the ingredients were of high quality. The women working behind the counter were efficient and friendly, and the food was hot and tasty. I had the quadruple mint chocolate brownie for desert, which was everything I dream of, when I dream of mint chocolate brownies.

I don't love Main Street Bagels but unfortunately I keep finding myself coming back. The main reason isn't the food, it's that there is a little train table in the back corner where you can plop your kids and they will stay relatively happy while you eat your meal. There aren't really any restaurants downtown where kids have anything to do other than sit at the table. That being said, Main Street Bagels doesn't really have any kid-friendly food if you are looking for something beyond a cookie. I got the grilled cheese once and the bread was so enormous my kid couldn't even take a bite. You'd think for the amount of kids that are brought in there that they would make a kids menu. I think a problem with Main Street Bagels is that they've been around so long that they've gotten lazy. They are so established that they no longer aim to please to keep customers coming back. You never leave there thinking "Wow, what great service." I've heard that it is a terrible place to work and that that's why the employees are so grumpy but I haven't worked there so who knows if that's accurate. But the employees do have bad attitudes and my order is messed up often, too. Most importantly, know that Main Street Bagels is SOOOOOOO SLOW!!! Never go there if you are even slightly short on time. The food is good though and I am generally satisfied with my order.

This is just a must anytime in Grand Junction. EVERYTHING, and I mean everything is delicious. Cookies, bagels, coffee, juice, granola, sandwiches, bread. I've had it all and have never been ever moderately disappointed. In fact, I am always overwhelmed by the consistency of the freshness, and deliciousness. The place is clean, and always very well kept up as it is frequented by many and tables and chairs turn quickly! Service is always exceptional, friendly and attentive. This is just a corner spot that you shouldn't walk by without peaking in and getting a little snack, or making it a destination spot for breakfast or lunch. Five well deserved stars!

  • Cassandra B.

On a drive from Denver to Moab and checked Yelp for a good, local breakfast place. This place is it! Delicious bagel breakfast sandwiches and great lunch sandwiches too. I had egg salad on wheat bread and let me tell you, that wheat bread is amazing! Thick-cut, fluffy and flavorful multigrain is their choice for wheat bread and it was delicious. Cozy atmosphere made for a great pit stop!

Great homemade bagels and coffee! We had a very nice chai and fresh squeezed juice as well. Service is very friendly and fast! Mixed crowd and lots of tables to seat as well as couches! Great breakfast spot.

Just passing thru grand junction stopped to have breakfast. If I knew they prepare scramble eggs In a plastic container and microwaved I would have kept going.

Great food, but a little pricey. Still, the best place for a muffin and cup of Jo in GJ.

    (5)
  • Luis Z.

Sesame bagel with honey cream cheese shmear, scones (lemon raisin, maple bacon date, cranberry orange), and fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice: All was delicious. Made better by comfortable open seating indoors and out, especially the train table for our youngest traveler. They even played Hall & Oates and the Bee Gees!

  • Brad W.

It was late afternoon and the bagel store was still open and I sauntered inside to grab a sandwich. They have alot of special sandwiches, but I ended up with one that involves turkey and cream cheese. The sesame bagel was still tasting fresh, but as usual, the turkey quality was on the lower end side. In this sandwich though, the cream cheese and sprouts overwhelmed the turkey and it wasn't much of an issue. The lunch was about 9 bucks and it included a good bag of name brand crunchy chips. The bagel/coffee shop seems to be a neighborhood gathering place and you could easily spend a few hours loitering. Oh yeah, the art on the walls is nice annd my 20 something cashier was calling me honey, a veteran in the industry already no doubt. I am concerned about the $1.19 per bagel price, getting too high these days.

  • Manny R.

As a transplanted New Yorker these are the best bagels I've had in Colorado and their friendly staff are always smiling. I always make a point to eat here when I'm in town and always take a dozen home with me to Denver. Check them out. You won't be disappointed.

  • Aki S.

Pricy but large serving. Nice selection including healthy options. Good coffee and amazing muffins. We bought some granola for later hikes and glad that we did. Would go again.

  • R. A.

Love! This is a staple in downtown GJ, and for good reason. Simple, small town atmosphere with the freshest food and coffee. GET A CUBAN CREMOSA! Just do it. Their cinnamon rolls never disappoint either. Everything is baked on-site, never frozen, and never made with cheap additives--you know, real food, no shortcuts, and you can tell.

    (5)
  • Amber L.

So bored with the overpriced sandwiches that have one slice of turkey or ham etc, drenched in spread to cover up for the lack of meat. C'mon, MSB, if you're going to over-charge for your food, at least go for two slices. Geez. I would recommend skipping this place and heading over to Cafe Sol.

    (2)
  • Hal R.

I have already stated that Cafe Sol is my favorite restaurant in town, so I will give Main St Bagels my "favorite everything else" place in town. This cafe is consistently awesome, their employees are always pleasant, and their products are so damn good. Get a coffee, a bagel, a sandwich, or even a smoothie and you won't be disappointed. If you are, go back to your villa in Aspen...keep being too smug for the rest of us. This is the definition of a one stop shop in my opinion. Highlights: any dark roast on any day, the cinnamon crunch bagel, the vitality smoothie, and my favorite...the chipotle turkey panini. I want one right now! Go here, eat here, and tip well.

    (5)
  • Julie S.

I live in California and obviously do not get to eat here often enough! The food is creative, wholesome, well thought out and just plain delicious. I have had many years in the food industry myself and I just wish some of these people would not speak out about what they feel to be high prices until they truly understand the food industry. I am sure MSB could put out decent food for much cheaper prices... foods with preservatives, etcetera . Putting out quality food does not come cheap, if you want cheap go to McDonald's !!! I want delicious fresh food and am willing to pay an extra dime if that's what it takes. Also if you look around there are some times 15 employees working at $10-$12 an hour and that's just the ones in the front that you see have you people ever heard of overhead? I just need to take a chill pill and stop right now.

  • Brandi C.

Just like the star rating says, AS GOOD AS IT GETS! I have to admit I take advantage of Yelp for its ratings and directions to services and restaurants near me and very rarely leave reviews, but this place deserves it. They have a GREAT selection of fresh homemade bagels, as good as any other bagel place I've ever been to. They also have an assortment of cream cheeses, even seasonal. To top it all off they make coffee and ESPRESSO drinks. So, I don't have to grab a bagel here and then go to Starbucks. This might be normal to some, but few independent mom & pop places I go to rarely have espresso drinks and if they do the thing is, they rarely get your drink right. Best part; they got my drink SO right! It was delicious. The staff is attentive and polite, and these people are getting it right. To me that is almost THE most important thing. Even at Starbucks 8 times outta 10 they eff up my coffee. I know what you're thinking. My coffee drink must be complicated. I'm that person in line with the five line long half caf. But really I'm not. I always order the same thing. Cafe O'Lai, or however you spell that. Half coffee, half milk. Not complicated. But you'd be surprised, more times than not, it gets mucked up. But these guys got it perfect! Even their atmosphere's awesome. Very, first thing in the morning, piping of fresh breads. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! Oh, & BTW, the crunchy vegetable cream cheese: BOMB.... I can't say enough good things.

Loved this place. We had a work mtg and it was a little loud but the food was amazing. I tried the sesame turkey sandwich and it was phenomenal. Plus the staff was friendly.

  • Bryan W.

This place is great. Bakery, vibe, comfortable environment. The quality of the baked goods is top notch. The only reason (I know its minor, but too easy) is they have no Agave syrup or Simple syrup to add the cold drinks. It's 95 degrees outside, and it would be nice to have an iced coffee with a touch of real sugar, not the fake stuff. But please come. It's definitely worth it.

    (4)
  • Lucy O.

This place is spot on! If you are lucky enough to be in this area in mid to late August you must try the Palisade peach cinnamon rolls, they sell out quick so get there early. We were in town for a week and stopped here several times, it does get busy...but worth the wait. Soup and sandwiches were all fresh and flavorful, the staff was friendly and working as quickly as possible. Don't skip it, just get in line....

  • Nigel M.

Stopped by for an afternoon coffee and baked good and it didn't disappoint. The coffee was good and the butter croissant and lemon and raisin scone was excellent. This is a large place with lots of inside tables and beautiful photographs, but there is seating outside.

  • Michelle T.

I'm sad to say I've had better food at a chain bagel shop. I had the turkey chipotle panini and it was so greasy that it made the bread soggy. We also ordered an everything bagel with the crunchy veggie cream cheese. They put on an obscene amount of the cream cheese, easily an entire tub. Some might say that's awesome, but the cream cheese wasn't very tasty and there was just a ton that got wasted when scrapped off. I'll skip this place on my next visit to GJ.

    (2)
  • Anne M.

Oh man delicious and great service! I had a bowl of oatmeal and they added coconut flakes and raisins and it was perfect temp and delicious. My son and boyfriend were happy with their choices too and they ordered bagels and a cinnamon roll. The coffee was fresh and the service was fast. Nice atmosphere too. :)

Was a little turned off by the price when I walked in but when my sandwich and soup came the portion size was huge! Well worth! Food quality was extremely fresh and delicious. Great lunch. Great place. Relaxing

The bagels and food are always fresh and extremely good. My wife loves this place. Service lacks at times due to high volume of customers and demand.

    (3)
  • Bianca A.

I wish I had tried some of their specialty bagel sandwiches or other things to give them a proper review. However, I had a hazelnut latte and chai tea and while tasty this is definitely not what they are known for. But the service was friendly even though they were very busy they were getting food and drink orders out quickly. The spot is larger than it looks on the outside and they have some nice patio tables set up so you can enjoy the beautiful weather. When passing through here I will stop by again and try their goodies!

Always a great music selection and great coffee! I recommend a quinoa cookie too. :) There's plenty of space to enjoy the wifi or read a book, but it does get packed at lunch time. The staff is always very friendly.

Yummy homemade bagels and fresh orange juice! I usually don't like orange juice but this tastes just like oranges! Staff was friendly and the inside and outside is very nice! Good stop before I get back on the road headed to jersey :)

One of the most frequented venues of downtown Grand Junction. Ample seating, great for large or small groups. Nice atmosphere for conversation. Food and drinks are very good. Large variety of pastry bakery items, soups, sandwiches, gluten free, as well as coffee, tea, sodas, juices, smoothies. The triple chocolate gluten free cookie is a special treat I enjoy! Maple bacon date scone is yummy as well.

Cinnamon Crunch Bagel with Butter, it's amazing! Great local place for breakfast bagel and coffee. Definitely worth the visit. Staff is awesome and all the bagels are great. Their lunch bagels are quite good as well.

  • Chris R.

Bagels are top notch. The best I've ever had. The atmosphere is terrific. I don't believe I've ever been to a better a coffee shop. I'm so thrilled to have this establishment. Next time in town I'll definitely go again!

  • Erin K.

Visited today for an early lunch with the family. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience. I had the chicken Fabiola and cup of coffee. The place is clean and tidy. I really liked the crew. Everybody was on point, and knew their job. When I am in town I will most definitely be back. Go check the place out for yourself! It's worth it.

    (5)
  • Leah P.

This place was fairly average. I had a bagel sandwich (turkey, cream cheese, jalapenos, tomato). There was WAY too much cream cheese on it, although I guess that's better than not enough. I got the feeling that the bagel itself was probably pretty good, but overwhelmed by the toppings. Next time I would just get a standard bagel and cream cheese (and remove 75% of the cream cheese). It's in a great location and had a friendly staff. I would definitely try it again another time.

This was my first lunch after moving to Grand Junction during my new job away from Denver. I ordered the soup and 1/2 bagel sandwich option. After waiting 10 minutes with the rest of the lunch crowd, I sat down at an open table and absorbed my surroundings like a sponge. I sat back and observed my new life for the unforeseeable future. I thought about my blessing of a great new job in an unfamiliar world. I took a bite of my bagel sandwich and smiled a little. Life was slower here to what I was used to, even though I wanted to be back in the city, here is my now. I find coffee joints and delis to be inspirational, the communal hub, the hang out, the mixing pot of wifi connected everybodys. Main Street Bagels is this place, I sniffed it out right away. Smack dab right on the corner of downtown main street. Faces looked the same, clothing styles were similar, just the subtleties were different to my familiar home. My lunch hour winded down and understood better my place just a tiny bit more. Grand Junction isn't all that bad, either is Main Street Bagels. Since my initial first visit, I filled two sandwich/lunch frequent visitor cards and met in the back room for local Chamber of Commerce Bing meetings.

  • Scott M.

The full name is "Main Street Bagels and Artisan Bakery which is good since they have a lot more than bagels. They have great sticky buns, Danishes, cinnamon rolls, sandwiches and more. When we pass through Grand Junction we often stop here before we hit the road and get sandwiches for the road and maybe a bagel or two to nosh on. No it isn't as good as a NYC bagel, but we don't really expects it to be and Grand Junction is a far nicer place than the Big Apple in my estimation. We also like the French baguette too, we cut it up that night to have with cheese, wine and charcuterie when we stop for the night.

What a cool place to have breakfast. Love the ambiance and home feel

    (5)
  • Lynn H.

Highest prices in town, although the bagels and coffee are yummy. Too expensive, screaming children, lack of cleanliness, and poor food safety practices are the reason for a low rating. It used to be a great place but the owners got greedy. Nowadays there are better places in town to get a good cup of coffee and meet up with friends.

    (1)
  • Ross B.

OK, I'll admit it, I'm a coffee snob. So I have to start there. The baristas at Main Street Bagels are the best trained in town, the coffee is outstanding, and they take pride in doing a good Rosetta, which helps the experience. Plus I really value the fact that they have a heavy emphasis on making everything from scratch with quality, often organic, raw materials. No high fructose corn syrup or packaged mixes here. And best of all, they haven't given into the temptation to cram a TV in their dining area. Thank you! They are a bit pricey, but considering the high level of food, service, and most of all coffee (really the only espresso you can get in Junction that honors the Italian originators of the art), I'd consider it a great value all the way around.

  • David M.

Middle of GJ. Convenient and homey spot for freshly baked well made bagels and pastries. Free wifi. Lots of space, including comfy sofas and chairs. Coffee and espressos all very good. A tad pricey but hey, this is DOWNTOWN Grand Junction. :-David

  • Lara M.

Very chaotic and crowded which speaks to it's popularity in GJ I suppose. Good coffee and food but way too pricey. Breakfast for 2 with beverage $30.. seriously, a fruit smoothie a cpl bagels & a coffee. Stick with Einstein's bagels and no I don't work for them.

    (2)
  • Champ W.

Was in town visiting friends. Breakfast for the three of us was pricey. I forgot to take a picture of the receipt, so next time I will. I'm reviewing my last review and stick to the expensive for what you get remark. As far as taste, I did enjoy the food. We spent approximately $28 for the three of us for bagels and coffee drinks. It is what is it is. And no I don't work for Einstien's either. But I should go try em. Oh wait I have. If I wanted frozen bricks I'd go there.

  • Sarah Ann B.

I've had better bagels, for a cheeper price, but not within 240 mi in any direction of the GeeJ. So yeah, they are definitely able to price gouge a bit because of that. BUT, at the same time, they use quality products, have a decent selection of bagels, most of the time they have several flavors of coffee ready to go, and they fix your bagel however you like. When it's slow, I've even asked them to put some salt and pepper into their 'scrambagel' creation, and they were happy to oblige. If you're really going to cry about the price, and not just cough up the extra 2 bucks to have it right then, and made for you; go get a dozen, take them home, cut them all up (so it's easier to pop into the toaster when you freeze the extras), then make your self something that you won't cry about. You could even marvel about how awesome your creation is, then open up another bagel shop! Opa! I will continue to come back here because their cream cheese is frickin delicious and I like having other people make me food while I sit on a comfy couch. Not to mention Einstein's bagels is too far away, and their bagels are no where NEAR as good. Enjoy it, and suck it up.

  • Andrea J.

Love the atmosphere here! Parking is pretty good and they have gluten free options! My kids love to get a smoothie and walk around downtown. They have great hours and free wifi, so perfect for working : )

  • Junie J.

Charming place with decent coffee. We went on a Sat. morn and there was a little off-key singer with some fiddlers in the background. Several knitters were on one couch, many friends of the musicians were there (they had to be friends - no one wanted to really listen to that noise), a few guys and their boyfriends were at another table for a 'mornimg after breakfast', and there were several folks there like us- looking for a decent priced cup of coffee and a quiet place to wake up. The coffee was decent and the price was comparable to those 'chain store' coffee places. This is an okay local place with more of a bohemian nature than I wanted.

Great smoothies....I had the Orange delight and it was. Our party had bagel sandwiches, pannini and salads and all were great. What is really neat about this place is the atmosphere. Very local, house style dining room tables, sofas and lounge chairs in what looks to be an old bank (off to the side in a rester aunt extension

Great little place to have a light breakfast or just pick up a smoothie or coffee. The staff is really friendly and you can easily pull up a seat and hang out getting lost in surfing the net or just relaxing.

i actually didn't get to try their bagels, but what we had was great. food was healthy gormet and locally sourced. huge second room with tons of extra seating (though it was almost all full in the morning...)

  • John M.

I breakfast here every time I'm in GJ. Toasted bagel and egg sammy and a big skinny cafe a laut. I usually take a loaf or two of bread home for my neighbors as they've always got a good looking loaf of Challa, Rye or something I haven't heard of that's calling my name. Fresh squeezed OJ, yummy smoothies and patio seating.

    (4)
  • Joe F.

Anyone who's ever had a real new york bagel would not like this place. But for western colorado I guess it's ok.

    (1)
  • Anne L.

Their bagels are tasty and made right, but small for the money: over $1.00 each. Main St. Bagels also does not have pumpernickel bagels, which is sacreligious for any real bagel store. This place is pricey for what you get, but the quality is the very best for what you do get. They don't skimp. Beware: Their braided challa (egg bread) is over $6.00, and is only about 1 1/2 inches high. You can get a much bigger, nicer looking and great tasting one at Great Harvest for about the same price. One big complaint: if you go in to Main Street Bagels just to buy bagels, you may have to wait in a big, long, slow line, with everyone else ordering entire meals, even if you just want one or two in a bag to go, without slicing or toasting or anything.
